Set against the backdrop of Aspen Mountain, the simple, contemporary landscape of this residence draws upon the strong lines of the architecture. An elegant entry experience is created with a stone walkway, crossing a rectilinear reflection pool to reach the front door. A sunken garden adjacent to the entry is a striking and unexpected feature that brings light and natural elements into the lower level spaces. Rain garden planters were utilized within the entry design to accommodate the storm water infrastructure requirements, a challenge for the small lot size.
Outdoor living spaces throughout the project link the architecture with the surrounding landscape. Back patios include an outdoor cooking area, spa, and fire feature integrated into a site wall, all arranged to focus views towards the mountains. The southern portion of the site was restored with native landscaping, creating a meaningful transition from the manicured living spaces to the native perimeter with native wildflowers, sage, and conifers that screen the road and adjacent properties.
