West Edge Redevelopment

Cheyenne, Wyoming

Economic development blossoms when arts and cultural investments bring people into the community. For the City of Cheyenne’s West Edge neighborhood, DHM Design’s goal is to strategically shape the physical and social character of the area around arts and cultural activities following assessment and remediation of the brownfield properties. DHM is currently leading a team of consultants funded with an EPA brownfield planning grant to provide help the community redevelop the revitalized downtown. This effort follows on related work by DHM as part of a larger brownfield planning team to create a vision for vibrant infill of historic and warehouse blocks applying improved streetscape, a system of new public parks, and adaptive reuse of currently vacant landmark buildings. Instead of traveling elsewhere for entertainment and cultural experiences, residents will invest in the local economy. This newly created centralized park and connected parkway system will preserve the historic character of the near west side while creating new vibrant public venues. The project gained enthusiastic support using concerts, video, 3D modeling and social media.
