2014 DCI Governor’s Award – Best Adaptive Reuse for Public Space
The Brian’s Park Ice Rink Video is a step forward in distinguishing landscape architecture as a profession that drives change and benefits community in ways no other profession can. By telling the story of Brian’s Park Ice Rink – we continue to educate others about what we do as landscape architects. In this case, the emphasis is less about design in the traditional sense and more about the intangible impact we’ve had on a community.
Making improvements to treasured places can be a challenge, as there is a danger of tainting the authenticity and character of the thing you are trying to improve. The intent of this video is to celebrate the rink and the community of people who created it and to show that, after the landscape architect’s involvement, Brian’s Park Ice Rink is used and loved even more.
