DHM provided design services for the hotel arrival experience including landscape, hardscape and water features at the porte cochere and the primary access street, Calle Nuevo. The street is a beloved public space for the residents of SMA and the proposed improvements were politically important for the approval of the project. One of the goals of the project was to blend the streetscape edge into the resort so it becomes part of this very historic community. Design details were inspired by the rich history of art and design in SMA and the streetscape incorporated fountains, street furnishings, sidewalks, and a public pocket park. DHM worked closely with a resident botanist to improve the health and appearance of the existing street tree canopy, and with the architectural team for a rich and elegant arrival experience.
